Virginia Portillo

Dr Virginia Portillo is a Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham and RRI and EDI Coordinator for RAi UK. In 2016 she joined the School of Computer Science to work in the UnBias and later ReEnTrust projects, expanding her career as an inter- and multidisciplinary researcher in the field of human centred digital technologies and AI.

In the last few years, her work has specialised in bridging the gap between the theory of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) and its implementation. She has led the RRI work in many research projects including: hoRRIzon 1, 2 and 3 and TAS RRI and has played a crucial role in making responsible innovation more accessible, operational, and driving an embedded RRI culture within Horizon DER, TAS and RAi UK programmes.

She is Researcher Co-I of a RAi UK Impact Accelerator project: RAKE (Responsible Innovation Advantage in Knowledge Exchange) and RRI Advisor for the AIBIO RRI and Ethics Working Group.

As an experienced RRI practitioner she has also provided training to PhD students and colleagues in the academic, public and business sectors, and delivered activities that enabled RI Knowledge Exchange between academia and industry.
